From time to time the Natal Towing Association is able to assist with some charitable undertakings with donations
and with the assistance of our members....The NTA derives little publicity from these donations and it is not publicity
which drives the executive committee but the desire to help someone in need, and within our limited means
we are happy to do so........
some examples of these charitable efforts include.........
The Association also donated over R15 000, through the ECR Big Favour Programme, to the Peter Pan School for mentally
handicapped children in Pietermaritzburg. This donation enabled many children who have learning disabilities to attend
The Mercury Hibberdene Children’s Holiday Home as part of a programme to assess their self-sufficiency
and personal responsibility skills. Some of these kids had never seen the sea !
2012 ECR / Peter Pan School
Some smaller gifts in 2012 have gone to Diabetes SA and to The Association for the Aged (TAFTA).
June 2009 ECR / The Hub Winter Warmth Blanket Campaign
Custom Designed Wheelchair R10,000 Donation
During the 2007 motor show as part of Damon Beard's The Big Favour programme on ECR, NTA Chairman Shane Lander and the RMI's Liaison Officer Karen Joseph handed over a specially designed wheelchair to the parents of a disabled child.
He could not see very well, sit, walk, talk or feed himself and had outgrown his pushchair and was becoming too heavy to carry and so a customised wheelchair was the answer
The NTA contributed R10,000 - 00 towards the cost of R12441-00 with "Mr Wheelchair" sponsoring the balance.
The parents were totally unaware of what ECR and the NTA had done, and it was a special moment for all those who were present.
ECR Big Favour Programme Baby Plight
At the same time the NTA became aware of the plight of a baby in a Brazilian Jail facing the prospect of being permanently separated from his mother.
Independent Newspapers Initiated a campaign to bring the baby home to South Africa and with the support of the Big Favour Programme and the NTA, we were able to purchase clothing, a pram, a cot, bottled food, formula and nappies etc from donations received from NTA members.
Sincere thanks went to Angie of Nels Breakdown in Durban, Durban South Towing, Eshowe Breakdown, Caspers in Pietermaritzburg, BTR of Kokstad and Karen Joseph of the RMI for their generosity.
